Green and Eco Friendly School Fundraisers

School fundraisers have become more important in recent years reduced the federal funds, state and district education and school was based. As a result, more schools and groups are now several charity events and in some cases, competition for dollars.

As a parent and former teacher, I am concerned about the impact of increased pressure to raise funds on the culture and atmosphere of the school. Fund raising is a billion-dollar industry that has little regard for the health of students, family or community. We must ask ourselves, what we teach our children and families through our fundraising practices going on? Currently, my school district is raising money by selling cookie dough and the promotion of McDonald’s vouchers. Not that I do not like cookie dough or the occasional Big Mac, but like the general health of the students outweigh the need to raise money.

Has one of the trends of growth in recent years, Green or Eco-fundraising solutions welcome. These programs sell green products such as reusable water bottles, reusable bags and fair trade products. It’s a step in the right direction, because the products are sending to an educational message at home and to promote positive actions such as recycling, waste reduction and the use of reusable products. In some cases, these fundraisers are connected green or green on the curriculum.

Another kind of green fundraising, which has become popular again, the Walk-a-thon, or a variant of modern dance-a-thon. These activities are conducive to health and awareness of the body needs for the year. Communities often as this type of fundraising, and most people really do not want a glass of cookie dough or wrapping paper too expensive.

It will take time to change the culture of the school fundraiser, but the change has happened in the country. The next time you can influence how a group raises money, should the actual impact of raising funds on the entire community and look at a green or environmentally friendly fundraiser for your group.
